“AND MY GOD WILL SUPPLY EVERY NEED OF YOURS ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES IN GLORY IN CHRIST JESUS”
— Philippians 4:19
…….
Most believers don’t believe it. This promise is almost too great to comprehend.
Every need of yours…supplied by God.
Is this too good to be true? The owner of everything wants to provide for my every need. The God of heaven and earth promises to take care of me.
The apostle Paul calls him my God.
Five times Paul received thirty-nine lashes. Three times he was shipwrecked. Countless beatings. Often near death. Stoned. Beaten with rods. Adrift on the open sea. Sleepless nights. Hunger and thirst. Toil and hardship. Imprisoned and persecuted. And my God supplied his every need.
This same God promises to meet your needs as well. Notice God guarantees needs, not ease. God promises daily bread not fancy threads. He offers abundant life, not always abundance in this life. If you can learn to trust God – and not yourself – in times of perceived need, you’ll experience that God is enough.
There will be energy for every assignment. He’ll provide grace for every trial. You’ll have strength for each day. God even gives wisdom generously. There will be a way out of temptation when you need it. Your food, drink and clothing won’t run out. If you need it, you will have it. And if you don’t have it now, you don’t need it yet.
“Oh, how wonderful,” we would say if a friend received an inheritance that provided for their every need. “What a lucky guy!”
But can you see we have a greater guarantee?
The one who promises is called Faithful and True. He is unrivaled in power and fiercely committed to keeping his word. Our God gives and never exhausts his supply. No markets deter him. No tariffs affect him. No competitors threaten him. His riches are in glory.
Heaven is his throne and earth is his footstool. It all belongs to him: the cattle on a thousand hills and the hills. The silver and the gold. The earth and its fulness. God is absolutely able and totally trustworthy.
This promise is ratified in Christ Jesus. We have no claim on God outside of what Jesus has purchased for us. We can make no demands upon the one who makes us.
But in Christ Jesus my provision was purchased. His blood says my needs will be met. ‘Forgiven’ was just the beginning. Inheritance is what he gives next.
At the cross, my fears shrink to nothing. At the cross, they are finished and done. When my eyes see a Savior who loves me, my heart finds its rest and is won.
Father in heaven, thank you for your provision and your promise. Please strengthen our faith to believe your word and live like it is true. You are a great God and worthy of our trust in every circumstance.
