“AND AS YOUR DAYS, SO SHALL YOUR STRENGTH BE.”

— Deuteronomy 33:25

I first came across this promise in the writings and sermons of John Newton. He who famously wrote, “I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see” also loved to quote this verse: And as your days, so shall your strength be.

Moses used this phrase to bless Asher and now in Jesus, this blessing is for us as well. God gives us enough strength for our days. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

Jesus is our strength! He gives power to the faint. To him who has no might he increases strength. As your days, so shall your strength be.

Do you feel your need for strength? Our hands droop like Moses’ amidst the battle. Our knees grow weak from standing firm. Heavy burdens make us weary. We need a strength beyond our own. And then our Savior says: As your days, so shall your strength be.

Samson had to learn there was a secret to strength. It was not his muscles, nor his locks of long hair. There is a King in heaven who gives strength and never grows weaker. He does not sleep, but never grows tired.

They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

When we wait on the LORD, he refills us. God is our source of strength. His mercies are new every morning and his strength is enough for each day. As your days, so shall your strength be.

For all Samson’s flaws, he won impossible victories by God’s strength. Samson defeated large armies. He judged the Philistines. He delivered God’s people. He was a picture of the strength God can give.

When one greater than Samson arrived, he walked in the power of the Spirit. A woman who touched the fringe of his garments was completely healed because power had gone out from Jesus. He felt it.

Power is still going out from Jesus to those who reach for him. Whatever is on your calendar today, whatever you’re facing, there will be enough strength for today! Enough for every challenge. Enough for every assignment. Enough because as your days, so shall your strength be.
