“HAVING GIFTS THAT DIFFER ACCORDING TO THE GRACE GIVEN TO US, LET US USE THEM.”
— Roman 12:6
You have a gift, a superpower given by God for serving God and others.
A flaming torch has been put in your hand. When you carry it, darkness flees. Lift it high and others will rally.
Some of you have a silver trumpet. Raise it to your lips, dear brother, and play. Let the wind in you arouse the army for battle.
Open your hand. Is that not a gold coin you hold? Keep it far from your pocket or purse, but spend it, believer, on the High King and his coming kingdom.
Was that you singing? I thought it was a bird, no an angel, because it lifted my soul heavenward. Go on filling the atmosphere. Your music makes us fearless.
That map rolled up in your hand, take it to the general’s tent and orchestrate our victory. Make strategic plans, not just for yourself, but for us all.
Your shining sword is almost too fierce to behold. Why sheath it when the battle rages? Many have only daggers, some are empty-handed, but yours looks double-edged. Wield it well and those with less will fall in behind you and those against you will fall back.
Who are these lying on the ground? Deploy the merciful. Call out the healers that they might comfort and restore. Let the weak say, “I am strong.”
Was that your prayer I heard? Intercede, great warriors of the night, and hold Moses’ arms high. We win when you pray.
A sweet aroma fills the air. Praise God, our chefs have done their job well. Spread the table. Supply the troops. Let your flavors refuel us and remind us of the feast ahead.
Scribe, is that you? I’ve read your stories and heard you publish good news. Write the vision, for we need resolve to keep going and imagination for what’s to come.
Look! A few ride out on horses. They know the way and go on ahead of us. Lead on, great generals. Your courage shows us what’s worth living and dying for.
Lay aside all worldly weapons. Our flesh never wins in spiritual combat. Instead, use what has been given. Fan your gift into a flame. Train it. Build it. Practice it. Grow it. We need it.
King Jesus could triumph all on his own, but that’s not his way. He wants you alongside him. Your gift is your invitation to participate. Who could have asked for such an honor? It’s grace… grace from a generous God.
